Presentation transcript:

 Operation Barbarossa was Germany’s code name for their invasion on the Soviet Union.  The attack happened June 22, 1941at 3:00 Sunday morning with three Army groups( North, South, Center).  Barbarossa was the largest military attack of World War 2 and also would be the turning point of World War 2

 At the beginning of the war Germany had 3 million soldiers, 3580 tanks, 7184 artillery guns, 1830 planes, and horses.  By day 17 of the war the Center Army for Germany had captured 300,000 Russians, and destroyed 2,500 tanks, 1,400 artillery guns, and 250 aircrafts.

 In the beginning operation Barbarossa was a very big success but later on it had failed.  The Germans had underestimated the Russians potential because the Russians kept backing up and letting the Germans more into their territory.  When winter came the Russians attacked the Germans who were low on supplies and were not prepared for the cold harsh winter.

 At the end of the war the estimated death for the Soviet Army was 7 million  The estimated deaths for the Soviet civilians is about 20 million people  The estimated deaths for the German Army is about 4.3 billion and about 900,000 Axis forces lost their lives either in war or they were captured by the Soviet Army.
