Novel Theme John Doe Mrs. Pineda English 12 Period 4

My Novel Theme –It is human nature to conform to feel safe Main plot line –The impending threat of war has a country raging against the current government and joining a party that offers the people safety at the price of their individuality.

Similar Novels 1984 by George Orwell –Restrictive government causes people to loose their individuality Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates –The unpredictable nature war causes people to change their identities drastically.

Similar Novels Continued Animal Farm by George Orwell –The Corruption of Socialist Ideals The Lion the Which and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis –Unity is Power The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck –Mans inhumanity to Man

Connections With my Novel 1984 –This country conformed with a overly powerful government to feel safe during a war. Just like the society in my novel, they are searching for the best life for themselves. Revolutionary Road –Life after a hard war causes people to make their lives as normal and predictable as possible. For many this predictability causes unhappiness. Just like my characters, these characters are unhappy with their uninspiring lifestyle. Animal Farm –Over powerful and corrupt governments forces a society into a life they may or may not want, but they have no choice. My characters, along with society are forced into this new government without any real knowledge that this may not be what they want.

Connections Continued The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe –A surprise overthrow of a liked government forces a society to loose all they had loved. Even though the society helps to force in the new government, the end up loosing everything and not just the things they did not like. The Grapes of Wrath –The unpredictable lifestyle during the depression causes a live or die situation in society which causes the survival impulse to kick in. No matter what my characters do to try a restore any resemblance of life, it is thrown away by the new government which causes the people to turn on each other.
