What are Copyright Laws  Copyright is a form of protection  Phonorecords are reproduced copies of work  Derivative works are based on originals  What are “Fair Use” Policies?

Copyright Protection  Copyright protects “original works of authorship”  Categories include: Literary Works Dramatic Works, including any accompanying music Pantomimes and choreographic works

More Works Protected  Pictorial works  Graphics  Sculptural Works  Architectural Works

How Long Does A Copyright Last?  Depends on two major factors: Is work published How long has work been published

General Rule for Works  Works created after Jan : Are protected for author’s life Protected 70 years beyond author’s life For anonymous work:  Endures 95 years from original publication  Or 120 years from first creation

What is a Library of Congress Number?  The Library of Congress Control Number: Assigned by the Library Its purpose is to assist librarians Number helps acquire and catalog works.
