Directions: Using a scratch piece of paper, make two cards. Label one card fact and the other fib. When I put the statement on the screen decide whether it is a fact or fib. When I say go, lay down your card. Whoever plays the write card, gets a point!

Fact or Fib: Statement 1 At the time of the Civil War, the North was more industrialized than the South. FACT

Fact or Fib: Statement 2 At the time of the Civil War, the South grew cash crops while the farms of the north grew food. FACT

Fact or Fib: Statement 3 Both the North and South had laws concerning slaves called Slave Codes. FIB These laws were only in the South. They restricted the education and other freedoms of slaves.

Fact or Fib: Statement 8 Bleeding Kansas was a revolt led by the abolitionists after the passing of the Fugitive Slave Act. FIB Abolitionists were upset over the new fugitive slave law, but Bleeding Kansas occurred after the Kansas- Nebraska Act allowed each territory to vote on the slavery issue.

Fact or Fib: Statement 16 The battle of Gettysburg was a huge victory for the CSA. FIB It was a huge loss of life for both sides, but it is considered a turning point in the war because it led to the South's defeat.

Fact or Fib: Statement 17 Grant refused to meet with Lee when the CSA surrendered at Appomattox Court House. FIB Grant and Lee met together to discuss the terms of the surrender. Grant offered the CSA very generous terms that included food for their soldiers.

Fact or Fib: Statement 21 FACT The Homestead Act allowed for public lands public lands in the West available to settlers without payment, usually in lots of 160 acres, to be used as farms.
