Career Awareness Strategies Revisited

2010 Identified Priorities Outcomes – Help establish an outcomes-based system for moving successfully from one phase of a student’s education to the next. Educator Development and Support – Develop improvements in VT’s pre-service teacher training system with goals of supporting teachers for the shift from a culture of teaching to a culture of learning. Career Awareness/Exploration – Develop innovative approaches to integrate career awareness and exploration into the educational experience of all Vermonters across the cradle to workforce continuum.

Working Groups 2011 Three Working Groups established, each reflecting a modification and focusing of the initial priorities:  Performance-Based Learning  Curriculum Alignment  Stop-Out Strategies for adults with some college credit

Stop-Out Strategies  Targets adults who have some postsecondary education, but have not completed a certificate, associates degree or other.  Create a public engagement campaign  Create an online resource that outlines statewide programs and resources for adults  Create a permanent adult post-secondary task force

Recommendation  Focus on 2 established working groups for next 18 months:  Alignment  Performance-based Learning  Revisit Career Awareness Strategies at end of 18 months
