Too Long in the World A study of Psalm 120 “a psalm of ascents”

In my trouble I cried to the Lord, and He answered me. (Psalm 120:1)

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. (Psalm 120:2)

I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war. (Psalm 120:7)

Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, for I dwell among the tents of Kedar! (Psalm 120:5)

What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? Sharp arrows of the warrior, with the burning coals of the broom tree. (Psalm 120:3-4)

Too long has my soul had its dwelling with those who hate peace. (Psalm 120:6)

Everything is not okay in this world.

We live in a difficult world! …children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation (Philippians 2:15) For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:20-21)

What we need most in time of trouble is the opportunity to worship God.

Worship alters our viewpoint and helps us see the truth. –About ourselves –About our neighbors –About our enemies –About our problems –About what’s important Worship is the place where the troubled can find hope and strength.

Worship services are not the destination of our lives; they are the “filling stations” on the way to the destination!
