PENNY LAB Reviewing how to conduct a lab

SET UP Page 4 of your Science Notebook (from now on abbreviated NB)  Title: Penny Lab I predict that we can put drops of water on the penny before the water flows off. [write the preceding and make your prediction]

1. Materials Construct 2-column Data Table  Headings: trial #, # of drops Calculate the average # of drops of water  Show work: equation for average, plug in the numbers, underline average with units. 2. Procedure Drop water onto the penny one drop at a time keeping careful count of number of drops. Need to drop water until the penny can’t accept any more—you will need to go “one-drop too far” and the water will actually need to spill over. One drop less than “spill over” will be your amount. You need three good trials 3. Data & Calculations ¼ cup water Penny Pipette (dropper) Paper towel

CLEAN UP  Pour unused water back into the pitcher  Put pipettes back on counter (be sure there is no water in it)  Put dry pennies back in the bag  Put cups back on table—up side down on the paper towels  Wipe up any spills and put waste in trash cans

FRIDAY SCHEDULE Advisory schedule—late start Not going to advisory period—this is the schedule  1 st period  2 nd period  Advisory time—go to 4 th period  There will be a practice evacuation drill during this time  3 rd period  All school lunch  4 th, 5 th, and 6 th
