Madagascar Results from the FiBL/IFOAM/SOEL Survey Compiled by Helga Willer, June 12, 2009

Organic farming in Madagascar: Key figures According to Ecocert West Africa, currently 9’546 hectares are under organic management (data 2006). This constitutes 0.02 % of the country’s agricultural land. In addition to the agricultural land, there are 17’301 hectares of wild collection areas certified by Ecoert. According to Ecocert East Africa there are 5455 producers in the country. It is difficult to draw a clear picture on the develepment of the agricultural land and farms in the country, as there has not been access to a consistent data source. Land use data are currently not available, however, data on the range of export products.
