Bolivia's Government President Evo Morales and his political party the M.A.S. (Movement Toward Socialism) drafted a new constitution which was highly debated and negotiated until finally in October of 2008 the text was agreed upon in Congress, although some who opposed it believe it was agreed upon under duress as thousands of M.A.S. party supporters surrounded Congress to force a decision. Congress members were unable to leave and were forced to sleep in the building for several days. Approximately 60% of Bolivia's citizens voted to approve the new constitution during a national referendum on 25 January 2009 after months of dispute.

The Population of Bolivia 10,118,683 (July 2011 est.)

Bolivia’s Culture Bolivia’s national holiday is Independence Day on August 6th. Almost all Bolivians are Roman Catholic (mixed with traditional indigenous beliefs in many communities) and so Catholic holidays such as Christmas and Easter are also nationally celebrated. In addition, all towns and communities have their own festivals and rituals throughout the year.

Bolivia's Facts Bolivia Facts: Bolivia is an amazingly diverse country in every sense of the word. Landlocked and located in the heart of South America, in Bolivia culture draws strongly from deep multi-ethnic indigenous roots, centuries of Spanish colonial occupation, the influence of its five neighboring countries, and numerous very diverse foreign immigrant populations. The history of Bolivia has been shaped by colorful conditions as reflected in the changing colors of the Bolivia flag, its nine state flags. See all Bolivia's national emblems. In rugged Bolivia government has been tumultuous and difficult, especially since the country gained its independence from Spanish rule in 1825.Bolivia culturehistory of BoliviaBolivia flagnational emblems Bolivia government
