Graduation Plans

Anticipated Timelines Students beginning high school in must complete the requirements of the new graduation program. Students enrolled in high school prior to will have the choice to complete their current (MHSP, RHSP, or DAP) graduation program or to transition to the new Foundation High School Program.

HB 5 changed the graduation programs from MHSP, RHSP, and DAP to a Foundation Program with options for: Endorsements Distinguished level of Achievement; and/or Performance Acknowledgements This becomes effective with freshmen but students enrolled in high school prior to will have the option of transitioning to this graduation program.

Personal Graduation Plans High School Principal must designate a school counselor or school administrator to review PGP options with each student entering 9 th grade together with the parent. PGP must be signed by student and parent before the end of the school year. Students may amend their PGP but written notice of the amendment must be sent to the parents.

High school graduation programs. CSHB 5 would replace the minimum, recommended, and advanced high school program with a 24-credit foundation high school program, beginning with the school year. The curriculum requirements for the foundation program would be: four credits in English language arts, including English I, II, and III, and one other advanced English course; three credits in mathematics, including algebra I, geometry, and an advanced mathematics course; three credits in science, including biology, an advanced science course, integrated physics and chemistry, or an additional advanced science course; three credits in social studies, including U.S. history, one-half credit in government, one-half credit in economics, and world geography or world history; two credits in a foreign language; seven elective credits; one fine arts credit; and one physical education credit.

A student could satisfy the foreign language requirements by substituting two credits in computer programming. A student served by special education could satisfy the foreign language requirements by substituting credits in other specified coursework. A student would be allowed to participate and receive credit in a fine arts program not provided by the school district.

Students could earn endorsements on their diplomas in any of five areas: STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), business and industry, public services, arts and humanities, and multidisciplinary studies.

ENDORSEMENTS Upon entering 9 th grade, a student must indicate (in writing) an endorsement he/she intends to earn. Student must be allowed to choose a different endorsement at any time. A parent signature is required on the documents.

ENDORSEMENTS A student may earn an endorsement by successfully completing: Curriculum requirements for the endorsement (TBD by SBOE) 4 credits in mathematics 4 credits in science 2 additional elective credits 26 credits total

Distinguished Level of Achievement Students must earn Distinguished Level of Achievement in order to be eligible for Top 10% Automatic Admission to institutions of higher education.

Distinguished Level of Achievement A student may earn a distinguished level of achievement by completing: 4 credits in mathematics, which must include Algebra II. 4 credits in Science; The remaining curriculum requirements and The curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement (TBD by SBOE)
