During SATs week:  Please ensure that your child is in school every day during SATs week.  Ensure that they are in school on time.  If your child is ill please inform the school.

How is SATs week organised? Tests are completed in classrooms and smaller groups around the school. Children will have the opportunity to have the questions read to them in the mathematics papers. 100 squares, rulers, mirrors and pencils will all be provided for the children to ensure they can access all questions.

The Reading Test  Level ½: Children are given a reading booklet with questions which relate to that page of writing.  Level 3: children are given a separate reading booklet to their question booklet. Paragraphs are longer to read.

How can parents help with reading? Ensure your child reads every night. Encourage them to read fiction and non-fiction books. Try to ask them questions about the text. Encourage them to re-read the text if they are unsure of the answer.

Mathematics Tests  Both papers have a mental maths test at the beginning which they have a selected amount of time for.  Equipment will be provided for the children and questions can be read to the children – which is why we are separating the children into smaller groups so we can support the children more efficiently.

Top Tips  Ensure children have a good night’s sleep before the tests.  Make sure children have breakfast before they come to school.  Do not put too much pressure on them.

PLEASE REMEMBER!!  The levels your children will receive at the end of the year will be teacher assessed alongside the tests! So if your child may not have done well during the test but are very capable of completing that work within class and we know this we can give them the level which represents their work and ability.
