Discovering your Spiritual Gift One of the major changes that occurs when the Holy Spirit becomes an integral part of our lives is the empowerment to serve others in a variety of ways with an incredible motivation to meet their needs

Three Keys to Discover your gift Desire –Which gift would you like to develop in your life? –Phil 2:13 (1 Tim 3:1) Joy –Which area of service appeals most to you? –Phil 2:17-18; 4:4 Effectiveness –Which area of service seems to produce the most blessing or help to others? –Where do people mostly respond positively to your service? 1 Cor 12:7; 14:12; Rom 1:11-12; Eph 4:12

How to discover your Gifts 1. Believe that you have at least one gift (1 Pet 4:10; 1 Cor 12:7, 11) 2. Focus on the needs that you note in others 3. Desire to know and to use your gifts (1 Cor 14:1, 12) 4. Allow yourself to be controlled by the Spirit through your desire to obey (Eph 5:18-21; 4:30; Gal 5:16; 1 Thess 5:19) 5. Have confidence that you will want to serve (Phil 2:13)

How to discover your Gifts 2 6. Study all the gifts to know what God has given to men, and which gifts are most motivating your interest (Psa 37:4) 7. Be willing at all times to serve in the area of your gift, as well as the other areas of service required of all believers 8. Look for the wisdom and advise from mature leaders that can observe your service (Heb 13:7,17) 9. Accept the chain of authority in your life (marriage, family, church, business, school, government, authorities, etc) as instruments to show how to serve the Lord (Eph 5:22; 6:1, 5) 10. Use your gifts as a priority in your life, to help others mature in their life’s mission (Eph 2:10)

Obstacles to Discovering your Gifts 1. Root cause of unresolved problems in your personal life Need for approval, acceptance, and importance Insecurity about whether you can make a difference 2. Lack of participation or interest in helping others have their needs met Who is going to meet my needs? 3. Attempt to imitate other gifts or areas of service Do you want the fame and authority of others? 4. Fail to analyze why certain activities appeal to us
