Counting Bugs Unit designed by Christy McBee Smith, Gordon County School System, 2006 Standards Addressed: MKN1: Students will connect numerals to the quantities they represent. a.Count a number of objects up to 30. MKP1: Students will solve problems that arise in mathematics and in other contexts. b. With the use of manipulatives, solve routine word problems related to all appropriate kindergarten math standards. MKP5: Students will create and use pictures, manipulatives, models, and symbols to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.

Stepwise Instructional Task Worksheet Early Elementary Mathematics Numbers: Bugs

Insect handheld stamps created by hot gluing wooden pegs to the backs of flat stamps

Colored dots placed where students need to stamp their insects.

Number stickers on picture to help students identify and/or match numbers.
