Salutary Neglect Period of time (1607-1763) when the British were lenient with the colonies based on the desire to benefit from the economic prosperity of the colonies. British leave colonies alone bec they are making them $$. Leads to the development of independent colonial trade practices as well as a self sufficient government. Colonies begin to trade on their own and govern themselves.
