Objective Students will learn about the Theory of Multiple Intelligences developed by Howard Gardner, and how to apply the theory to technology in the classroom. Students will take a short quiz on the main points of this theory and its application to technology, to ensure understanding for ability to apply it in their teaching.

What is the Theory of Multiple Intelligences ? – Gardner’s theory suggests that there are eight different types of intelligences – Everyone embodies these intelligences – Our surroundings and life experiences determine which intelligences are stronger or weaker – Each of the eight intelligences highlights a different way in which one may learn and problem solve. What are the eight intelligences? Verbal/linguistic intelligence – Individuals strengths are in language, written, and oral skills. They are better at understanding others and can easily convey what is on his or her mind. Logical-mathematical intelligence – Individuals are able to easily understand principles of systems and are able to conduct mathematical operations. Go back to review

Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence – Individuals are able to use their body in solving problems by, creating or making a solution, or expressing through performance.

Applying this theory in the classroom The basic use of this theory in the classroom is to first use a variety of learning activities to encompass all intelligences in the classroom. By supporting student learning in their area of strengths, you can help them apply it to their area(s) of weakness. Go back to review

Applying this theory to technology in the classroom In the same sense that we should vary our learning activities to apply the Theory in the classroom, we should do the same with technology. Each intelligence can use a different form of technology to its advantage.
