Sinai, the Israelites grew restless and made a gold idol to worship.

Chapter 4 – Lesson 2 Idolatry – Giving worship to a creature or thing instead of God. Atheism – The sin which rejects or denies God’s existence. The 1 st commandment directs us to believe in God and put him first in our lives. The Theological Virtues faith, hope, and charity (love)

Chapter 4 – Lesson 2 We live out the 2nd Commandment.  God reveals that his name is sacred, or holy.  “You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God in vain.”  Yahweh – “I am who am.”  We use God’s name only when necessary and with reverence, or honor, love, and respect. Sins against the 2 nd commandment include: blasphemy – a thought, word, or act that makes fun of or shows hatred for God, the Church, or sacred objects. perjury – the act of making a false oath. cursing – calling on God to do harm to someone.

Chapter 4 – Lesson 2 We live out the 3rd Commandment.  God created everything in six days, and rested on the 7 th day.  “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.”  The day to rest is called the Sabbath.  Catholics celebrate this day on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation, by attending Mass.  At Mass we celebrate Jesus’ Paschal Mystery – his suffering, death, Resurrection, and Ascension.  The Jews celebrate the Sabbath or Shabbat on Saturday. Their Sabbath begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday.
