Although most of this lesson will consist of the names and functions of cell organelles, there will be discussion related to the elements of Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells

Some Facts Prokaryotes First cells to evolve They have no nuclear membrane. This means that the genetic material (DNA) floats about within the cell. Have no organelles All are single – celled Are smaller than Eukaryotic cells Most common example of prokaryotic cells are bacteria. Eukaryotes Evolved from prokaryotes They have organelles and each is contained with it own membrane Have a cytoskeleton They have a center called a nucleus that has a membrane. The genetic material of a eukaryotic cell is contained inside the nucleus which is the largest organelle within a eukaryotic cell. They are larger than prokaryotic cells and more complex.
