Indian Remote Sensing Programme 25 Years of Indian Remote Sensing Programme Started with the pioneering experiment of detecting Coconut Root Wilt Disease using Color Infrared Film in 1970s by Prof. P. R. Pisharoty. Jun 07,1979 Bhaskara-I (1979) and Bhaskara-II (1981) – Experimental Remote Sensing Satellites provided the foundation for the operational Indian Remote Sensing Programme. Aerial view of Grove Area (Coconut Root Wilt Disease Study) Nov 20, 1981 The Result is operational Indian Remote Sensing Programme with the launch of IRS-1A on March 17, 1988

Currently operational EO missions

EO Missions since Last Plenary in 2012 – SARAL (407 kg) Mission/ February 25, 2013: Launcher PSLV, India – INSAT – 3D (2060 kg) Mission/ July 26, 2013: Launcher - Ariane-5 VA-214, Kourou, French Guiana SARAL INSAT-3D

SARAL: Satellite with Argos and Altimeter - Joint Indo-French satellite mission for oceanographic studies Besides SARAL, PSLV-C20 launched six auxiliary payloads from Canada, Austria, Denmark and UK Launch: Feb 25, 2013 Launcher – PSLV C-20, SHAR, India Altika Payload: Built by CNES Ka-band (35.75 GHz, BW 500 MHz) radar altimeter Dual-frequency microwave radiometer (23.8 & 37 GHz) DORIS & Laser Retro-reflector Array Repeat Cycle: 35 days Altika/SARAL mission belongs to global altimetry system for precise and accurate observations of ocean topography, circulation & sea surface monitoring ARGOS Data Collection System: Built by CNES Contributes to development and operational implementation of global ARGOS DCS. Collect a variety of data from ocean buoys to transmit the same to the ARGOS Ground Segment for subsequent processing and distribution. SARAL/AltiKA SSHA observation overpass over Indian Ocean on Feb 28, 2013 and SLA from POM model at 0.5 degree resolution.

President of India with ISRO & CNES Chief on 23 Feb 2013
