Prepositional Phrases  Add detail to your writing.  Shows the relationship of a noun/pronoun to some other word in a sentence.  Begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or a pronoun.

Example: The birds sat under the trees and searched for food. Prepositional phrases: under the trees for food

A prepositional phrase sometimes works as an adjective… The cake on the table looked stale.

A prepositional phrase sometimes works as an adverb… The burglar entered through the basement window.

You try… They crowded into the room.

Object of the preposition The noun or pronoun which ends this type of phrase. The birds sat [under the trees] and searched [for food]. Object of preposition: trees, food

The words between the preposition and the object of the preposition are adjectives and adverbs. One [of the girls] [in the new blue car] is my sister.

When the object of the preposition is compound Example: Barbara was walking [with Jon and me]. The word “and” is a conjunction, so both Jon and me are objects of the preposition.
