Types of Animal Tissues 1) Epithelial Tissue: line the body surface and internal organs functions: act as a protective barrier, may secrete or absorb materials There are FOUR types of animal tissues: 2) Muscle Tissue: designed to change their shape by lengthening or shortening functions: allow movement of limbs and walls of internal organs (eg. Stomach)
3) Nervous Tissue: made of cells called neurons with long finger-like projections functions: receive, send signals and coordinate body actions 4) Connective Tissue: made of cells surrounded in some sort of matrix (liquid, mineral, elastic) functions: strengthens, connects and supports the body
