POST SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Career Technical Colleges—specialized training such as automotive, business, computer science, cosmetology, health care, and so on Community College—AA degrees, Career Technical Certificates or Apprenticeship. Earn while you learn! Community College transfer to CSU / UC programs College / University—Baccalaureate degrees Military / Armed Services—talk to a recruiter Enter the workforce

EC Transcript Review: Check your transcript and graduation status frequently online through Q Are you registered for the correct classes you need for graduation or for college admissions? Credit Recovery Co-Enrollment Apex: After school and during some periods of the school day. Located on campus. See Ms. McGuire in the counseling office or your assigned counselor for details. El Sereno High School: Independent study. Located in Fair Oaks. Online Courses: Through fee-based providers like BYU. Must have prior counselor approval.

College Admissions A-G Minimum Subject Requirements are: (A) 2 years of History / Social Science (B) 4 years of English (C) 3 years of mathematics (through Algebra 2) (D) 2 years of science (must be lab-based science courses) (E) 2 years of Language other than English (LOTE) (F) 1 year of Visual or Performing Art (VAPA) (G) 1 year of College Prep Elective

Applications COLLEGE Applications Visit each college website and make a master list of schools and deadlines CSU Application filing period is October 1 through November 30, 2015 UC Application filing period November 1 through November 30, 2015 – Students can begin working on their UC application now, but cannot file until 11/1/15

Private / Independent and Out-of-State College Applications Most private / independent colleges use the online Common Application at Many require a personal essay / statement Writing the Personal Statement Workshop will be held October 28, 4 th period, library You must check deadlines and requirements online Letters of recommendation from your teachers, mentors, coaches and school counselor are usually required

Letter of Recommendation Requests: CSU and UC do not require a letter of recommendation Ask politely – Your teachers, coaches, employer, mentor and school counselor Give them time -- Three to four weeks in advance is an appropriate amount of time Thank them -- It is very important for them to know that you appreciate the work they have done for you Letter of Recommendation Worksheet is located on the EC website, under the counseling tab.

California Community Colleges Apply February-March 2015 for priority admission Must take English and Math placement exams To transfer from a program to a CSU/UC, visit Associate Degrees and Certificate programs

College Representatives at EC Sacramento State Rep will be on campus to meet with seniors October 12, 2015, 6 th period, library – Future Hornet Day, Saturday October 24, register at ARC Rep will be on campus to meet with seniors Oct. 20, 2 nd period, library Other College Reps: Many college reps visit EC throughout the fall. These are announced in the E-gram and School Bulletin. Students must pre-sign up in the Counseling Office to attend these visitations

Career Planning and College Major Continue to explore your career interests and aptitudes in Naviance Retake your Career Interest Survey and Personality Assessment Research careers and college majors based on what you know about yourself Then find out what education / training is required Enroll or apply to a school / college program that offers you a major in your career field of interest

College Athletics Students must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center online to be recruited for Division 1 and some Division 2 colleges NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics): Many division 2 and 3 colleges are members of NAIA

Remember… It is up to you! You don’t want to find yourself stuck without a plan after high school. Get informed! Set goals! Plan for life! PLAN!
