Creating Histograms on the TI-84 and in Excel Mr. Ricks Madison High School

TI-84 STAT  Edit Enter data into L1 2 nd  STAT PLOT  Enter Select “On” and push Enter Move cursor to the histogram and push enter and quit screen ZOOM  ZoomStat Adjust Window if desired

Creating a Frequency Table in Excel Enter Data Set Sort Data (Optional) Decide on # of BINS and enter upper limits into a column

Click “Data” tab Select “Data Analysis” on far right of screen (if this doesn’t show up ask how to activate it) Choose “Histogram” and click “OK

For “Input Range” select data column by highlighting or pushing Ctrl, Shift, down arrow

For “Bin Range” select data from BIN column by highlighting or pushing Ctrl, Shift, down arrow

For “Output Options” select “Output Range” and select a cell in your spreadsheet (I like to leave a blank column in between) You should now have a frequency table

Create a column with Bin widths Delete “More” row from table May add rel. freq. column if desired I also like to center and outline table

Add a Histogram Highlight Frequency column and insert a 2-D column chart Edit so there is no gap, add outlines, title, and axes labels (chart tools) and you’ll get…
