Slide 2 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Smart Strips  Reduces plug load by eliminating “idle”, “phantom” or “vampire” current from electronic devices.  Types of smart strips –Occupancy sensors –Load sensors –Timer plug strip

Slide 3 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N RTF Provisional Deeming  In April 2009, the RTF provisionally deemed smart strips in both residential and commercial applications –100 kWh –Incremental Cost = $20 –Measure Life = 4 years –12 month sunset date of provisional deeming

Slide 4 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N BPA Program Information  Since RTF approval, BPA has reported 0 smart strips in the PTR –BPA resource constraints were barrier to program initiation  New BPA initiative beginning in April 2010 –Utility led implementation  Data collection required by BPA of participants –Model type installed –Installation location –Types of plug load –Business type  Expected number of units: 600 – 3,000 units

Slide 5 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Research Plan  Plug Logger metering equipment  2 week post-metering of installed units –kWh usage –Simulated pre-usage in post install period  Collect Information –Hours of operation –Installation setting –Equipment plugged in –Equipment settings  Sampling: –50 units – dependent on number of installations and distribution –Will stratify sample based on business types; will be chosen based on provided information and focused on a few utility territories.

Slide 6 B O N N E V I L L E P O W E R A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Request to RTF  Extension of provisional deeming in commercial applications through April 2011 to allow for installations and research
