VERBS

A verb is a word used to express an action, a condition, or a state of being.

Action Verb An action verb tells what the subject is doing (it can be physical or mental) Example- walked, worried, feared, danced

Linking Verb A linking verb links the subject to the predicate part of a sentence Example-be, am, is, are, was, were, been, being

Linking Verb Use this example to see if the word is a Linking Verb. I ______ sick. (was, am, will be) They ____ sick. (are, were) She ____ sick. (is, was)

Linking or Action Verbs Some verbs can be used as an action or a linking verb. ALWAYS READ THE SENTENCE Examples- (feel, look, taste, smell, appear)

Linking or Action Verb I feel sick. (It is linking because you can change it to I am sick. I feel the soft blanket. (It is action because you can see them touching it)

Linking Verb or Action The cookies taste delicious. The baby looks at me. The boys taste the pie. The baby looks tired. The magician appeared on stage. The animals appear friendly.

Helping Verbs A helping verb helps the main verb express its action. Example- I am running. The boy is fighting in the hall. My baby was crying last night.
