Lessons 9-10 Vocabulary Investigating Daphnia and Exploring the Hydra

Lesson 9 – Investigating Daphnia Exoskeleton – a hard outer shell that covers the bodies of certain animals, including crustaceans and insects Antennae – appendages of an insect’s head used for smelling and touching

Lesson 10 – Exploring the Hydra Nematocyst – poisonous thread in the sting of cells of certain organisms, such as Hydra and jellyfish. Budding – a form of asexual reproduction during which an outgrowth of an organism, formed through cell division, breaks off and becomes and independent organism.

Flagellum – (plural: flagella) Whip-like extension of a cell that aids in movement Invertebrate – an animal without a backbone Regeneration – the process by which certain organisms produce new body parts
