WHAT ARE RENEWABLE ENERGY CROPS? Crops grown on agricultural land for energy production. Energy Grasses ~ e.g., MISCANTHUS Energy Wood ~ e.g., WILLOW COPPICE. Diversification for Farmers

HOW DO THEY PRODUCE ENERGY? Produces heat, or steam to drive turbines. Conversion units fire the biomass. Available from 1 mw to 35 mw British manufacturers (Talbotts of Stafford)

HOW DOES AN ENERGY CROP GROW? MISCANTHUS Planted in Spring as a rhizome. Produces a dense population of cane ~ about 12 feet high. Harvested March with mower and baler. No fertiliser, or sprays CO 2 efficient ~ environmentally friendly. Ecologically friendly.

PROJECTS ON LINE HEREFORDSHIRE BIOMASS PROJECT 20 mw Green Energy Station 70,000 tonnes of renewable biomass per annum 3,500 plus hectares and 400 plus farmers £1.5 million crop value per annum STAFFORDSHIRE PROJECT 2 mw Green heat project – Talbotts Unit 1,000 hectares © 100 farmers.

NEW PROJECTS? Heat and power on a local basis Schools Hospitals/Care Homes Local Projects easily driven forward
