The “Me Decade” Time Capsule Activity A time capsule is a historic cache of goods and/or information, usually intended as a method of communication with people in the future. Time capsules are sometimes created and buried during celebrations such as a World Fair, cornerstone laying for a building or other event. The phrase "time capsule" has been in use since about 1937.

The “Me Decade” Time Capsule Activity Take 20 minutes to skim the content of Chapter 55. Make a list of political, economic and social events you feel are most important or best convey the 1970s decade. Categorize them as political, economic and social. Take 10 minutes with your group to compare lists and come up with a master list of events. Take 15 minutes to brainstorm what physical artifact you might put in a time capsule to represent each thing on your list. Share out with the class
