Social Responsibility Issues. p. 121 Environmental protection Plan use with renewable resources and reduce pollution. Conserve non-renewable, natural resources, such as gas, coal, oil, copper and iron ore, that cannot be replaced once it is used up. Workplace diversity Reflective of the community in which the company is located. Must have people with the required skills. Safety on the job. Purchase safe equipment, reduce air emissions and water toxins, renovate building to remove hazards and improve ease of use for individuals with disabilities. Employee wellness Sponsor stop smoking seminars, counseling for employees with substance abuse problems, weight loss sessions

Costs of social responsibility. p. 124 May eliminate the need for government control. Cost of programs may reduce profitability so spending must be restrained. Businesses spend money for installing non-polluting and safer equipment, for building renovation to remove hazards, for rehabilitation programs, and for community projects.

Business ethics. p. 124 Principles of morality A code of business ethics is a standard or guide for employee behavior. How businesses and employees should behave. Written in terms of acceptable behavior rather than a forbidden action. Firms provide training on ethical practices.
