Where is Barbados located? Barbados is the most easterly island in the archipelago of the Caribbean islands located at 13º N Latitude and 59º W Longitude. Barbados’s total surface area is 431 square km of land, equivalent to 2.5 times the size of Washington DC, with 97 km of coastline and maritime claims of territorial sea of 12 nm in total, reserving an exclusive economic zone of 200nm. Unlike most of the other Caribbean islands, Barbados is not volcanic, but predominantly coral based.

Flag, Motto, Anthem: Blue represents the sea and sky of Barbados, while gold represents the sand of the island's beaches. The symbol at the centre of the flag represents the Trident of the mythical sea god, Neptune - the shaft of the trident is broken symbolizing Barbados' break from Britain. I pledge allegiance to my country Barbados and to my flag, To uphold and defend their honour, and by my living to do credit to my nation, wherever I go.

Sports: Sports played in Barbados are cricket, field hockey, fishing, golf, polo, rugby, football and surfing.

Attractions, landmarks and points of interest: There's so much to discover about this island - from the historic homes and buildings that tell the story of our past, to the underground wonder of our natural caves. You will see our natural beauty in the tropical flowers that bloom around you and the breathtaking landscapes and seascapes that abound. Take a tour of our local towns and villages to truly experience Bajan life!!

Heroes/Role Models: Born in Barbados Rupert Clarke, to a Barbadian father and German mother, Rupee is one the best known artists in the musical movement known as soca. Although already popular in the Caribbean, "Tempted to Touch" from his second album enjoyed over two years of international club play, and became the catalyst for his worldwide deal with Atlantic and his new album "1 ON 1". The young artist received the NISE Service Excellence Champion pin for 2004 from the Barbados Prime Minister amongst other recipients including Sir Garfield Sobers.
