Youth

Definition The time of life between childhood and maturity however it also identifies a particular mindset of attitude, as in "He is very youthful". The term youth is also related to being young.

Wellbeing One in four young Australians experiences a mental illness involving symptoms such as these, yet 70 per cent of young people who need help or treatment do not seek it, cannot access help, or help is not available to them.  According to the ABS The most notable change over the decade for 20-24 year olds has been an increase in the proportion who were studying full time, from 21% in 1999 to 29% in 2009. This coincides with a decline in the proportion working full-time (from 52% to 47%) and is consistent with increases in both the completion of secondary school and the undertaking of further post-school education.

Special Needs Self-esteem-most of the young people have a low self esteem hence You lose confidence and the future looks like nothing will change. They can change that by increasing their self esteem by You feel relaxed inside and respect your own values and have some sort of confidence within yourself. Sense of identity-Most young people struggle with their identities due to having a low self esteem and also Young people’s desire to be accepted, especially among their peers, may make it hard for them to make their own decisions about their place in the world.

Access to Resources Health-Improving access to Medicare-Young people are entitled to hold their own Medicare card from the age of 15 years and consequently, are able to obtain independent access to health services. For more information see the Medicare Australia website. Rural Health services-The Regional Health Services Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in rural Australia by providing small rural communities with funding for primary health services. Services that can be funded include youth services, podiatry, physiotherapy, rural health promotion, illness and injury prevention, women's health, children's services, community nursing, mental health, radiology and immunisation. Socioeconomic Status- Centrelink- youth allowance can assist you if you are a young person who is studying, undertaking training or an Australian Apprenticeship, looking for work, or sick.

Issues of Concern Violence-There is violence between young people this is due to a misunderstanding between friends , alcohol, drugs and many more and it is common between both genders. Discrimination-It is common within young people such as racism because they don’t like that particular person or their race. However most young people can be discriminated at school or in a workforce this is because of there race, gender, ethnicity etc. Mental Health-Adolescents with mental health problems do not have problems that are limited to a single aspect of their lives. Rather, their problems are wide- ranging and include suicidal ideation, smoking, alcohol use and drug abuse.

Rights •A child or minor, for the purposes of many laws, such as the right to vote, the right to buy alcohol and for aspects of criminal law, is someone under 18 years. •Once you are 18, you are legally an adult and are covered by the same laws as adults. This means you no longer need your parents' permission to do things.

Services available for the Youth •Drug and Alcohol Youth Service The Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) is an integrated service incorporating Next Step (a Government Alcohol and Other Drugs youth service) and Mission Australia’s Withdrawal and Rehabilitation units. It provides a key entry point to treatment for young West Australians with alcohol and other drug issues. •Youth Healthline The Youth Healthline is a telephone service for young people aged 12 to 25 years in South Australia.
