Educator Licensing Update CESA 4 March 19, 2015 David DeGuire Assistant Director Teacher Education, Professional Development, and Licensing (TEPDL)

Professional Development Plans (PDPs) Revised Team Training – online Completed 4 pilots and content is set Technology implementation issues Will soon be holding train-the-trainer workshops Workshops should be available this spring

PDPs and EE

Educator Licensing Online (ELO) 2014 implementation was challenging year Many improvements for 2015 — Separated renewal by credits and by PDP — TEPDL staff have more options when processing — Clearer instructions with videos What can educators do to prepare? — Get WAMS ID and onboard into ELO — Get copies of transcripts or submit PDP — Follow the directions

RtI Guidance Key is “instruction” vs. “support” Instruction must be provided by a properly licensed teacher Support can be provided by any licensed teacher or by an aide/paraprofessional — Assist in following directions — Review study assignments — Prepare, distribute, and collect materials — Assist with behavior/monitoring

edTPA Preservice performance assessment Implementation timeline — Pilot: — Required but not consequential: — Required for licensure: Student teachers will be completing these — Please support them — Good PD for cooperating teacher Decision about out-of-state candidates has not been made yet

Governor’s Licensing Proposal Requirements for a 3-year license: — bachelor’s degree. — pass subject-area competency exam approved by DPI — have relevant experience in the subject as determined by DPI Grades 6-12 only Otherwise similar to Charter School Teacher License passed last year
