What is Title I? Title I – Federal funds connected to No Child Left Behind used to help the lowest achieving students meet the state standards Amount received is based on the poverty level in the district All money comes to LTES and in the past it has been used to provide assistance in reading and math in grades 1-3.

Parent Rights Information about Adequate Yearly Progress – Annual school and district report cards. (Available at or at Parent Involvement Plan –Parent Advisory Council –Opportunity to have input and review the plan Right to Know –Teacher and paraprofessional qualifications –Your student’s progress and achievement –Request meetings

How are students chosen? We use a number of different assessments to determine eligibility. –Math DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) Fall and winter scores –Numbers/Operations –Geometry –Numbers/Operations Algebra –Unit test scores –Teacher/family input.

What is DreamBox? Adaptive math tutoring program Aligned with the Common Core Standards Skills they work on Comparisons & ordering Counting Addition & subtraction Place Value Problem solving Students should be able to do it on their own.

DreamBox (cont.) Adventure Park - Where the lessons are –Pretest – star on the circle Do these lessons first and the yellow circles –Teaches how to use the virtual manipulatives –Gives them problems –Wrong answer will give them another chance. If still get it wrong, then will explain the answer. –Help button

DreamBox (cont.) Carnival –Arcade – can be limited –Games – some are free, others cost tokens Home As they play, they earn –Pet Friends – similar to trading cards –Tokens to play games in the arcade section –Certificates

DreamBox (cont.) A little help can go a wrong way! –Because of the adaptive nature of the program, too much assistance will make the system think your child understands more than they do. Parent Dashboard –Sign up when student logs in –Reports/ notification –Can play DreamBox

How will we get the minutes a week of tutoring? Combination of school and home time. Anything we do during school hours must be supplemental/additional. Your child will not miss out on any instructional time. Sessions should be a minimum of 20 minutes.

How will we get the minutes a week of tutoring? (cont.) –Teachers will provide 30 minutes a week during school day. –Computer lab will be open before school one day a week and after school one day a week for 30 minutes. –30 – 60 minutes a week at home

How will we get the minutes a week of tutoring? (cont.) We will work out an individual math plan for each of you. Like to have that plan in place as soon as possible. The computer lab will be open starting the week of March 18 th.
