Change? Why? Why Now?  A growing part of USPC that had more grey areas than black and white.  Concerns from leadership about the need for oversight.  A need for added resources to support the different tracks.  A need for horse experience to augment non-horsey parents. What’s New?  Membership status:  Club members  Not corporate members  Still non-traditional  Club sponsors will have a choice to accept HMX members as part of their membership  HMX groups may choose to become clubs  The liaison position will be replaced by either a committee chair, Jt. DC or DC position.

Then ~ Now The Last 15 Years  Started as a beta program in 2000 to increase adult volunteerism.  Formally became non-traditional members of USPC.  Groups were formed under the oversight of the local club, center, or region.  Original recommendations for separate activities were changed to encourage more integration between youth and adults where appropriate Forward  HMX members will be transitioned to be club members OR a new club may be formed.  HMX members will truly be a part of the club. They will be invited to all-club events and may have their own activities too.  HMX adults will be able to help at both club and regional level to add new experience and resources to help benefit all.

Adding Options  More adults with horse knowledge.  For HMX – the atmosphere of belonging, not being separate entity.  Experiences to share and gain.  Adult teaching experience for our youth members.  New volunteer options and additions.  Lets non-PC instructors experience certifications, etc.

Why Would you Want HMX?  Offering an opportunity to those who might not have had it as youth.  Expanding your club/center/region’s reach.  Keeping members who are aged-out OR no longer interested in focusing on higher certification levels.  Results in a creation of parent and volunteer education as adults become more involved.  Creates a larger, loyal community.

Best Practices Working As A Team  Just another part of the membership.  All-club/center meetings ~ clinics ~ groups ~ certifications ~ HMX only ~ camps.  Making it work for you and your area. Doing Their Own Thing  Separate entity.  Own meetings, certifications (as approved by the DC/CA/RS), events.  May be invited to join in local events. May invite local PC members to join in.  Often offer to help/volunteer with youth members.  Perfect candidates to take control of their ‘business’

Becoming A Club  Let’s Keep it SIMPLE!  The same process as any other club/center.  Application & approval.  DC, Treasurer, Secretary, Sponsor requirements.  As leaders, positions will require the same background checks and certifications as any other club.  Non-traditional members may also become sponsors, so members may be sponsors as well as HMX members.  Fees:  New clubs will be charged the same fees as any other club.  Established groups transitioning to club status in 2015 will be charged $ if they choose to have the library, $ if they choose to only change status and not receive materials.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions  What about Centers?  Structured as before. HMX can be members of a current center, HMX groups could also apply to be a center.  How do clubs record their willingness to accept traditional/non-traditional members?  The DC has the authority to make this decision.  How do groups transition?  HMX groups integrating into clubs will have their membership transferred.  HMX groups becoming clubs will change status and members will be transferred.  What about club & regional dues?  HMX are club members and would be charged according to club and regional policy.

……And More Competitions & Rallies Regional requirements Divisions Championships for HMX Certifications Available to HMX Plans for 2015 & beyond UL testing options

The Timeline March 1: Allowing current, late renewal and new members to join existing clubs or centers. May 1: New clubs/centers could be formed for the sole purpose of accepting only HMX members. August 31: Existing groups would need to declare their intent to either form a new club or to transfer into an existing club/center. November 30: Existing groups must be closed. Members either transfer to a club/center or begin process of formation of a new club/center.
