Onomatopoeia- words that sound like what they mean Is from the Greek, onoma, meaning “name” and poiein meaning “to make”.
A good writer can create onomatopoeia with his/her own word choice.
Bang, boom, and sizzle are simple onomatopoeias. James Joyce gives us the sound of Cricket bats: pick pack pock and puck Carl Sandburg describes the voice of the last cricket: “It is so thin a splinter of singing.”
Walter de la Mare poem “Silver” is imitating the quiet of a moonlit night Slowly, silently, now the moon walks the night in her silver shoon; this way, and that, she peers and sees Silver fruit upon silver trees
