P2 P2 explain two fundamental principles of HCI design

P2 Learning outcome 2 deals with some of the ‘hard theory’ applicable to HCI, much of which comes from other disciplines such as psychology, physiology and sociology. The content represents only a sample of selected pieces of the theory, and it is not the intention that learners undertake an exhaustive study of all, or any, of this. Overviews are what are required, so learners should be aware of the meaning of the terminology. For instance, they should be aware of the meaning of ‘throughput’ andthat there are methods of calculating this in advance for any system design (Fitts’Law), but they are not required to know the details of the law, or know, or use, theequation which is derived from it. The content for this learning outcome is therefore relatively brief with respect to prescriptive elements, and broader with respect to indicative content.

P2 P2 is concerned with basic principles and will involve any two principles taken from the lists in learning outcome 2. Ideally learners will consider one principle from eachof two different topics (perception, behaviour, information processing). The verbused is ‘explain’ therefore it is not acceptable just to state the principle, but learners must also explain why it is a basic principle. Any appropriate form of evidence, as stated above, will be acceptable
