Did you know? A large number (approximately 70%) of Lubbock community children receive free or reduced lunches

A hungry child cannot learn. “Research indicates that even mild under-nutrition experienced by young children during critical periods of growth may lead to reductions in physical growth and affect brain development.” The Links Between Nutrition and Cognitive Development of Children, 1998, Tufts University School of Nutrition Science and Policy

If they are hungry during the week…what do they eat on the weekends? Sometimes NOTHING!

Thanks to The Junior League of Lubbock And The South Plains Food Bank:

Fewer children are going hungry each and every weekend during the school year!

Funds raised by the Junior League of Lubbock purchase food in bulk with the help of the South Plains Food Bank.

Volunteers from The Junior League of Lubbock assemble the sacks weekly, …

Then the backpacks are filled with sacks of shelf safe food

Finally, the backpacks are delivered to schools on Thursday for Friday distribution.

“Please tell the ladies that do the backpacks, ‘Thank You.’ This is me with my backpack. ”
