The Loss of Nitrogen By: Maggie Walsh and Hannah Steier

One rainy hazardous day, Cooper wasn’t being safe outside. Cooper was sitting under a tree, while the tree got struck by lightning. He blamed this all on the Nitrogen Cycle, because the lightning helps with nitrogen fixation. The Nitro-Pow-Wow knew they had to get the inside scoop, they had to get to the bottom of it. Cooper’s very strong hatred toward the Nitrogen Cycle only got worse, as he learned the nitrogen gang was going to try to stop him.

Cooper was arranging out his plan, while the Nitro-Pow-Wow were investigating Cooper’s lair. They found a long record of all the crimes he has committed. The Gang started worrying that Cooper would do something to the Nitrogen Cycle to add on to his list of crimes. So, they decided to start protecting the cycle in case anything would happen.

Ring, Ring, Ring, Ring! Cooper was getting a phone call and left the room. Instantly, Nicole, Nathan, and Natalie entered his office. Uh-Oh! The gang spotted Cooper’s tricky plan and was petrified. Cooper wanted to collect all the bacteria and make sure that the decomposers and the decomposition would not get involved. The plan said that the location would be in the local forest. Immediately, the gang rushed out of the door.

They were walking down the forest when they saw Cooper standing in front of them. Apparently, he heard them in his office the entire time. They took one step toward him, and flung into the air inside the big net. In the blink of an eye, Cooper steals all of the bacteria in the forest. As the gang tries to break away, Cooper kills all of the plants and animals.

Finally, the gang releases themselves from the big net. Cooper runs away to the other forests, and the gang runs right behind him. Cooper thought he could add on to his plan by wrecking the nitrogen in every cycle! Fortunately, it is impossible to steal all of the bacteria to ruin the Nitrogen Cycle.

Step by step, the gang chases Cooper as fast as they can to the other forest. Before they can stop him, he captures up all of the bacteria and kills the plants and animals. Nitro-Pow-Wow became terrified and thought the whole cycle had just came to an end. Nothing will work without the bacteria. The gang thought fast, “We need a plan guys! Lets all spilt up and catch Cooper in action!”

Cooper dodges Nicole, jukes Nathan, but Natalie knows his tricks and is too smart for him. She grabs the bacteria bags from his hands and brings the plants and animals back to life. Just when they thought they saved the cycle, Cooper grabs his bacteria sucking invention, and runs once again.

The Nitro-Pow-Wow were starting to get worried that they wouldn’t be able to stop Cooper, and his evil mind. But Nathan had some tricks up his selve, “Alright guys I have a plan. Natlie, you need to go to Cooper’s lair and get rid of all his other evil inventions and vice plans. Nicole, go and chase after Cooper. Leave the rest to me…”

While Nicole and Natlie were doing their orders, Nathan was planting new plants and helping the environment, since he knew that Cooper’s plan wasn’t so smart. It wasn’t possible for Cooper to collect all of the bacteria since the decomposers are a big part too. Before, Nathan knew it Natlie was back and had gotten her job done. Natlie went off to go find Cooper as well.

Nicole was chasing Cooper when Natlie found them. Natlie and Nicole managed to corner Cooper in, he had no choice but to give in. Cooper said, “Fine, you win I will stop hurting the Earth. I knew it was wrong, but it really hurt when I got struck by that lightning! Can I fight crime with you guys?” “Of course you can Cooper! I'm really proud of you Cooper”, Nicole says with joy that Cooper want to be good.

The Nitrogen cycle was saved. Cooper joined the gang! He is now a official member of the Nitro-Pow-Wow. Cooper helps the environment now and there is plenty of bacteria! All thanks to the Nirto-Pow-Wow.

Glossary Nitrogen fixation – the process of changing nitrogen gas into forms that plants can use. Nitrogen cycle – the movement of nitrogen from the non- living environment into living organisms and back again. Decomposer – an organism that gets energy by breaking down the remains of dead organisms or animal wastes and consuming or absorbing the nutrients. Decomposition – the breakdown of dead materials into carbon dioxide and water. Bacteria – one-celled organisms that have various species that are involved in fermentation, putrefaction, infectious diseases or nitrogen fixation.
