Welcome to Our Wonderful Class! Parents-Please sign in and pick up your child’s information sheet. Verify that everything is correct and turn it in. Students-Choose a desk and write your name on the Post-it and stick it to your desk. This will be the name that will appear on your desk plates. Parents, find your child’s folder. At your new desk: Parents, feel free to begin filling out any papers outside of the brown folder. Everything in the folder you may take home and read at your leisure. You may return any paper work into the basket on back table or return on Monday. Bus Riders-pick up your bus pass and paperwork on the front counter. Please check out the donation request on the front board. CURRICULUM PRESENTATION WILL BEGIN AT 6:40pm.

English/Language Arts 4-6 week units based on an essential question Harcourt Journeys –new reading textbook Uses a variety of literature and genres Reading, Writing and Grammar taught together Spelling-Phonics/Skill based

Accelerated Reader (AR) 4 tests required each quarter (only 3 for first quarter) 1 written book report or 1 project due each semester. If students’ goal is reached, they attend the grade level Reward Party! Hot Reads strongly encouraged!

JA Biztown An exciting feature of the fifth grade year is the ECONOMICS unit of study. Students learn about opportunity cost, scarcity, needs, wants and are involved in the process of completing job applications and resumes. This preparation leads to real life application at “JA-Biz,” a Junior Achievement model city, which the students operate for one day. We are scheduled to visit JA Biz on Wednesday, September 23rd. We will be looking for a number of parent volunteers. As the time approaches, we will be recruiting you!

Behavior Earns Extra Play BEEP -(Behavior Earns Extra Play) Students not receiving more than one reflection will earn BEEP Friday. Must have all work turned in. Special activities are enjoyed! Study Hall is the alternative.

Homework Nightly homework will be given in Math and Language Arts Monday through Thursday; Science and Social Studies once a week Quarterly Long term projects Nightly reading-20 minutes

Communication Agendas- used daily to record assignments, events. Missing assignments will be circled. Wednesday Binder- all graded work will be organized in the binder and sent home to be looked at. Please sign the log sheet by Friday. - Please contact me by at any time! School policy is to return s/phone calls within 24 hours. If it is an emergency, please call the office.
