Definition of a Novel Novel: an invented prose narrative that is usually long and complex and deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events The present English word derives from the Italian novella for "new", "news", or "short story of something new“.

The Lightning Thief The Lightning Thief is a 2005 fantasy- adventure novel based on Greek mythology, the first young adult novel written by Rick Riordan.
