What is Education for Sustainable Development & Global Citizenship? ESDGC is education that seeks to develop a deeper knowledge, understanding and holistic vision of all aspects of Sustainable Development & Global Citizenship. In Wales, we use the acronym ‘ESDGC’ (Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship) in place of the more usual ‘ESD’.

Prepared and Presented by Jan Morgan For Swansea University Learning and Teaching event To promote and develop ESDGC in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, ), the UN University is recognising Regional Centres of Expertise (RCE) in ESD. Currently, there are 62 RCEs recognised around the world (4 in the UK). Swansea University is leading the Welsh application to establish RCE Wales - a Wales-wide UNU Regional Centre of Expertise in ESDGC

An analysis of good practice is produced to share with HEIs. HEIs undertake a self analysis of where ESDGC is being taught within their institution and where it could be furtherincorporated.

Self analysis completed on course modules Selected staff interviews conducted Reported to HEFCW: –Much good practice at Swansea University, though some of it not recognised as ESDGC –More support and guidance to staff would be welcomed –ESDGC can be effectively embedded within existing curricula –A review of existing management instruments at the University could benefit ESDGC provision Input to ‘ESDGC Good Practice’ report –Report available July 2009
