Did you know? There are various customs surrounding handshakes. The handshake is commonly done upon meeting, greeting, parting, offering congratulations, expressing gratitude, or completing an agreement. In sports or other competitive activities, it is also done as a sign of good sportsmanship. Its purpose is to convey trust, balance, and equality.

2. Telling about yourself Introducing Yourself

Telling About Yourself  Give the most important details of your education, job experience, and skills  Reveal your strengths  Help your interviewer get to know you  Explain how you got where you are (if you changed careers, etc.)  Should be brief and give only the most useful information to your interviewer

Explaining Your Journey Dr. Smith: Tell me about yourself, Heather. Elizabeth: Sure. I grew up in Fresno, California. I went to school at the University of California, Davis. There I studied Design with emphasis in interior architecture. After I graduated in 2006 I worked a couple of jobs in design, but lost all my passion for it. Eventually I moved back to Fresno and worked as a clothing specialist and manager at Macy’s (a department store). While I was at Macy’s I contemplated my future steps. I took a few short trips out of the country to Mexico and South Africa (in 2009 and 2010). I decided I wanted to become a teacher. I went to back to school and got my teaching certificate from Fresno Pacific University. As I was finishing my schooling, I learned about some overseas teaching opportunities. I knew this was the perfect blend of my passion for travel and my passion for teaching.

During my time at university, I ____________. …worked a part-time job at a restaurant. Through this experience I learned ________. …traveled to ________. Through my travels I discovered a much larger world than I could have imagined. This inspired me to want to work for a global corporation. I am fluent in both Chinese and English. I am ________, _________, and ________. (strengths) In the future I would like to ________________.
