It’s not recommended to unghoste them using a SPD or uploading a new version using UI. After creating a page from Page Layout, VS will not be able to delete page layout that is in use and page layout will not be updated. It’s not possible to edit page created from Page Layout in SPD. You can add it to regular Web Part page, export and import through browser to Page Layout based page. Field validation is not straight forward, custom JS validation can be used. 25
