Internet is becoming more and more popular nowadays and children are growing up with technology. Kids search engines gives parents great opportunity to control what children is doing in internet. Kids search engines are free Web tools that both, parents and children can use to search the internet websites/information’s that they are interested in. Search engines provides the security for the results what means that all the information’s that will come up on the screen will almost always be appropriate for families. Kids search engines are useful however they do not fully protect us from visiting inappropriate sites. Search engines do not checking internet content in general, just the results that come up when you enter search.

Children search engines are used in the same way as normal engines such as: Google; Bing; Yahoo However they are stripped of more advanced features and reduced to a more refined educational experience by giving the bare-bones of a search engine and allowing a discovery based on interest and recommendations rather than keywords and search parameters. Children search engines are normally shown with cartoon images which makes the search engine more interesting for the kids and therefore encourages the audiences participation and as a direct result engages the user in the system.

Online safety guide Parents should stay in close touch with their kids when they use internet Teachers need to help students use the internet safely Kids and teenagers need to learn to take responsibility for their own behaviour

Search Engine where kids can write in their own questions. Gives kids a chance to search other questions that they may want to research. This is known to be an advanced search page or options.

is a child friendly engine that focuses on learning, education and entertainment. The way the search engine works is for the child to write the question in the search box just as they would ask their parent or teacher. Once they have typed the question the answer would be shown in a simple way such as using short sentences, facts and simple vocabulary, organising the results into a form that can be easily understood by the end user. With Ask kids you can see that with the website page layout it is very simple and that when they click on the “answer” button it leads to a page with question that the kids may ask on different subjects. Also the layout is very clear.

Another type of children search engine would be This children search engine allows the children aged 7 to 12 to use this website as it does not advertise events that parent or adult will need. Therefore it is based on the audience for children as shown by the cartoon images and the layout of the page is kids friendly and very simple to use. This engine used to be called Yahooligans but got changed due to an unfavourable response due to it’s title, this serves exactly the same purpose but uses a different face, it also blends in, to a greater degree, with the current services by adapting a subdomain of Yahoo. The presentation here is really what counts and Yahoo has very much attempted to make the website appealing to the target audience, the real goal of creating a ‘sister’ site that appeals to children is to get them used to using Yahoo and therefore obtain and keep an audience for their main Yahoo search engine.
