2,1 This act of Congress overturned the Missouri Compromise because the issue of slavery in territories of Kansas and Nebraska was to be decided by popular sovereignty (they could vote). Kansas- Nebraska Act

3,1 This stated the California was to enter as a free state in the agreement. Compromise of 1850

4,1 This law/ act required people in the north and south to turn in runaway slaves. Fugitive Slave Act/ Law

5,1 Why did Harriet Beecher Stowe write “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”? Stowe wrote “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” to publicize the cruelties and evils of slavery and gather support. This infuriated many Southerners; however, it did turn many people against slavery.

1,2 Who was Dred Scott and what is his story? Scott, a slave who lived in Missouri, moved with his master to Illinois, then to Wisconsin, both free states. When his master died, some abolitionists lawyers sued for his freedom saying that by living in a free state he was free.

2,2 Name one thing that the Supreme court ruled in the Dred Scott Case -Scott could not sue for freedom because he was not a citizen -No African American (slave or free) was a citizen

5,2 What happened during “Bleeding Kansas”? 5,000 “border ruffians” swarmed into Kansas and voted illegally in Kansas’ election for a territorial legislature.
