HF UPGRADE PROJECT Y. Onel PM Report May 14,

Recent Highlights and News-I We have now our detailed HF Internal schedule for Thru this internal schedule we have moved some of our delivery dates forward. Our DOE Project dates will remain the same. Our Schedule starts with our PPP Final for the baseboards and follows a delivery sequence of “Test Stand” equipment, PMT’s and ROBOXes, system tests at 904 and SX5 and HF+- activities at Pt5. Julie Whitmore is incorporating the new advanced schedule in our MS Project file. Alexi is preparing the 904 and SX5 (alcove) Test System write-up detailing our equipment, procedures and measurements. Finalized our shipping plan of the PMT’s to CERN. The current plan is to ship the PMT’s from Iowa to CERN. The shipping includes full insurance directly from Iowa. In fact our latest estimates shows that this is the cheapest way to ship. Requested a change-order for this cost. We have already shipped several packages by the units of we should have already about 200 new PMT’s delivered at CERN. Tina, Ianos, Taylan are set by George and Melissa to receive our FEDEX delivery schedule. (FEDEX document server and Google Docs). Achielle has allocated a new space to store delivered equipment safely at CERN. Contacts are Christian Joram and Thierry Gys, Didier Piedigrossi. 2

Recent Highlights and News-II The PMT deliveries are now completed. Testing is going well. We had a meeting with Hamamatsu regarding our reject tubes. We have shipped back about 10 PMT’s ( low gain, high dark current and black cover problems) to be tested by them. The Base Board production is also going well. Working on the New HV testing system and forming a committee to evaluate the RFP responses. Bulgarian new module testing is completed. Waiting report from German and Alexi. The HV RFP and decision committee is now formed. Members are: Germain, Alexi, Ianos, S.Los, M.Miller, D.Winn from HF and Magnus and S. Lusin from CMS Coordination. We have to decide on the shield length- 54 mm looks good. After the presentation by Ianos- we will decide on the length and inform Mike Fountain to start with the production. Gain Sorting Proposal by Ugur -A uniform gain distribution for one HF is outlined from the foist 900 PMT sample. Other than the fringes at the edge of the sample, we can get gain uniformity within2% -EM and HAD, and 4 Quadrant separation would work if we can deliver different HV for each group (total 24 groups). -As the operation gain is decided, we can develop sorting and HV distributions for each group. 3

Recent Highlights and News-III There is a push for a new cable purchases– Thanks Chris Tully, Jeremy Mans and Pawel De Barbaro for this. There is also a strong support from Austin and Magnus on this. The New HF Physics and Detector group is now organized (Jane Nachtman). This group have members from Baylor, Brazil Universities, Iowa, Mississippi and Turkey. They had their first meeting on April 6 th. Developing our “Project Org Chart” adding Brazilian Universities and ITU, Istanbul. Alberto Santoro and Gilvan-Augusto Alves are named as Co-L2’s for Brazil in our org chart. 4
