Rostow’s Development Model 1.Traditional Society- high percentage of people in agriculture 2.Preconditions for takeoff- new technology and infrastructure 3.Takeoff- Rapid growth in textiles and food products 4.Drive to Maturity- more skilled and specialized workers 5.Age of Mass Consumption- Economy switches from heavy industry to consumer goods

DEFINITIONS Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM)- compares the ability of women and men to participate in economic and political decision making. Gender-Related Development Index (GDI)- Compares the level of development of women with that of both sexes.
