Overview 4 weeks. Thematic approach covering the whole curriculum timetable. End of project day for children to showcase work to parents/carers.

Week One Introduction session to play the game. Literacy: Character profiles – fiction. Numeracy: Track creation using previous shape, space and measurement knowledge.

History/Geography Famous races tracks, the history of them and where they are. Locally look at Silverstone. PE Athletics – team work/tournament structure, 4 teams working on different events, carousel.

Week Two Trip to Silverstone! Literacy: Hot seating, character interviews and looking at race commentary – non fiction. Numeracy: Making own cars – looking at aerodynamics, shapes needed to build it, forces and recording data.

Art Research on colours, designs etc. on racing cars. Design the colours for their own cars. PE Team games – team work/tournament structure, 2 teams playing against each other.

Week Three Literacy Race reports – non fiction. Numeracy Speed and distance – word problems.

Science Forces and motion. What makes a good racing car? What makes a good track? Materials. PE Athletics – team work/tournament structure, 4 teams working on different events, carousel.

Week Four Literacy: Creative writing surrounding the characters – fiction. Numeracy Testing out the tracks and cars, using previous knowledge from numeracy and science, recording data.

Playing the game, presentation day at the end of the week to showcase work to parents. PE: Team games, tournaments using their favourite games.
