AN Endangered SPECIES THE GANGES RIVER DOLPHIN BY: AZEEZAH

ABOUT THE GANGES RIVER DOLPHIN  Dolphins are one of the oldest creatures in the world along with some species of turtles, crocodiles and sharks.  The Ganges river dolphin was officially discovered in  Ganges river dolphins once lived in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Karnaphuli-Sangu river systems of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. But the species is extinct from most of its early distribution ranges.

APPEARANCE  Grey in colour, but because of pollution it is sometimes pink or red  About 3 metres long (when adult)  About 120 cm (when young)  Very small eyes (this dolphin is occasionally blind)

WHERE DOES IT LIVE It lives in the oceans of India and Bangladesh. The oceans there are filthy with rubbish. The very bottom of the ocean has the most of the pollution and most dolphins live there. The ocean is called Ganges river

WHY IT IS ENDANGERED  High levels of pollution can directly kill prey species and dolphins, and completely destroy their habitat.  Dolphins below a dam are threatened by heavy pollution, increased fishing activities and vessel traffic.

HOW CAN WE HELP  We can help by:  Picking up rubbish  Making a petition for recycling  Use foot, bicycle, in stead of petrol and gas consuming transportation

THE END
