John 16:1-6 The Importance of Preparedness
John 16:5-6 Emotional Revolt of the Soul!
John 16:5, “But now I (Jesus) am going to Him (God the Father) who sent Me, and yet not one of you (the disciples) asks Me, ‘Where are you going?’”
John 16:6, “But because I have said (taught) to you all these things, sorrow (inward stress) has completely filled your heart (right lobe of the soul).”
The Doctrine of Emotional Revolt of the Soul.
A. Introduction - Emotions: 1. Emotions were designed by God for good.
a. In Gen 1:26 God created man with a body and soul in His Own shadow-Image. In that soul He created Mentality, Self- Consciousness, Conscience, Volition and Emotion.
Mentality Volition Self Consciousness Conscience Emotion InhaleDoctrineExhaleDoctrine Man’s Essence
1) In the Garden, perfect man functioned under four shadow- image principles: S elf-consciousness - I am, Self-perception - I think, Volitional options - I ought, Self-determination - I will, resulting in good emotion.
Good emotion was added by God as an appreciator of the things in the soul.
2) Emotion is what is experienced as distinguished from cognitive and volitional states of consciousness. The emotions of the soul are designed to respond to what is in the mentality of the soul.
3) As a result of PMA of B.D. circulating in the heart via the filling of the Holy Spirit, the believer responds in appreciation to God. That is good emotion.
4) Emotion is a result of thinking. It is not a part of the spiritual life. We are not spiritual because we feel spiritual. Emotion is the appreciator of the spiritual life.
2. Bad emotion began at the original sin, Gen 3:6, and has continued throughout human history. After the fall it came in the form of tremendous guilt, Gen 3:10.
a. Bad emotion is: 1) Emotion out of control, 2) Emotion divorced from Bible doctrine, 3) Emotional revolt of the soul, 4) The emotional complex of sins,
a. Bad emotion is: 5) The emotional complex of sins combined with the arrogance complex of sins to form evil obsession and hybrid emotion.
3. As a system of response and feeling, emotion does not contain the following.
a. Thought b. The ability to reason c. Common sense d. Vocabulary as a tool for mental function. e. Doctrinal content.
4. The heart contains all thought and standards. The emotion contains nothing. KOILIA, “the belly or womb” (Rom 16:18; Phil 3:19 - appetite), something that is empty or hollow.
If emotion controls the soul you can not think or apply Bible doctrine to life.
