The after effects after WW2 on Germany From July 17 th until August 2 nd, a conference was held to decide the future of Germany. Truman, Churchill and Stalin attended the conference in Postdam at Cecilienhof Castle. They decided to divide Germany between them, and it was divided between The Soviet Union, Great Britain, France and U.S.

Cecilienhof Castle in Postdam

The division of Germany Germany was divided into West and East. East Germany was held by The Soviet Union. In October 6 th, 1945, Bonn became the capital of East Germany. West Germany was called German Democratic Republic and West Berlin is the capital.

West Germany was held by U.S, France and Great Britain. West Germany was rebuilt and the economy was improving constantly and quickly. East Germany was held by the Soviet Union. In East Germany, there were few economics activities.

The division of Berlin Berlin wad divided into East and West like the rest of Germany, even if it is in East Germany. France, US and Great Britain hold West Berlin. The Soviet Union hold East Berlin.

People moved from the East to the West for better life conditions The communists didn’t like the migration of Germans. Consequently, the Soviets decided to build Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall divided Berlin and defended the population to move from the East to the West.

The Soviets also created No Man’s land Everyone who tried to escape or leave, was shot persons tried to escape, but only 5000 found their way to freedom On August 19 th, 1961, for the first time, a soldier escape from East Germany

Causes of the Berlin Airlift In West Germany, a new currency was released to improve the economy quickly. On June 22 nd, 1948, which coincide with the seventh anniversary of the Soviet Union’s invasion, all the ground traffic in Berlin was stopped, and only the air corridor brought supplies in.

The Berlin Airlift U.S and Great Britain sent supplies daily to Berlin on planes. Later, other countries also sent supplies in. Berlin needed 2,000 tons of supplies every day, which made them dehydrate the food to decrease the weight.

The end of Berlin Airlift By May 12, 1949, more than 2.3 million tons of cargos were transported to Berlin in 277,685 flights. The soviets finally opened the ground route on summer The airlift official ending was on September 30 th, 1949.

Closure Where and when was the division of Germany decided? Who held East Germany? Who held West Germany? Why the Berlin Wall was built? What is the Berlin Airlift? When did the Berlin Airlift ended?
